From picturesque Leland Harbor to the twin Manitou Islands, the SeaWitch travels the deep waters of Lake Michigan for some of the finest freshwater sport fishing on the Great Lakes.

A 26-foot fiberglass Chris Craft holding up to six passengers, the SeaWitch is fully equipped with modern electronic fish-locating equipment and downriggers. It is a U.S. Coast Guard inspected vessel carrying all the required safety equipment.

Captain Edwin Peplinski, a life-long resident of Leelanau County, will chart your excursion according to the season and your interests. A professional in the fishing business for 20 years, he is an expert on local Lake Michigan waters and their inhabitants.

Leland's historic district, known as "Fishtown", has been a commercial fishing district for over a century. Weather-beaten shacks that once served as fishing shanties, icehouses and smokehouses have been converted to charming shops. Fishtown remains the site of much of Michigan's commercial as well as sport fishing. It is also the site of transportation to the Manitou Islands.

Charter fishing is fun for the whole family. But if you prefer your excursions on dry land, you're just minutes away from some of the region's leading scenic and family destinations.

All fishing equipment is provided aboard the SeaWitch. However, you must purchase a Michigan fishing license with a trout stamp before your excursion. Licenses good for a day or a season can be purchased right at Fishtown.

To ensure the most comfortable and enjoyable fishing experience, we suggest bringing the following along on your trip:

Warm sweatshirt or jacket
Soft-soled shoes to wear aboard the boat
Cooler to take your fish home in

Not going home right away? We can make a reservation for you at one of several restaurants in Fishtown, where they will prepare your fresh catch for lunch or dinner!

SeaWitch Charters operates May 1 - October 15, weather permitting. Advance reservations are required. Call (616) 256-7265.

$300- half day trip, up to six persons 5 hour morning or afternoon trip.
$500- full day trip, up to six persons. 9 hour trip.
Evening trips available by arrangement.

Captain's Herbed Trout

Trout or other fish fillets

1 bottle Italian dressing

Seasoned salt

Pepper

Oregano

Thyme

Lemon

Ripe tomato, sliced

Sweet onion, sliced

¼ stick butter

Marinate fish fillets in Italian dressing for at least 30 minutes. Place fish skin side down on a large sheet of aluminum foil. Season with salt, herbs and lemon. Place onion and tomato slices over fish and top with butter. Seal foil around fish. Grill for 15 minutes or until onion is tender.
