I operate 2 - 28' charter fishing boats off the port of Sheboygan Wisconsin for the past 14 years full-time. Every season one of my employees and I do some pre-charter fishing aboard his 18 foot boat to check out what's happening on Lake Michigan. We usually go out a few times in March ( weather permitting ).

This year our first trip was March, 13, 1999. We boated 2 fish, one Brown Trout and one Lake Trout.

Our second trip was March, 20, 1999. We boated 6 fish, all Brown's ranging from 3 pounds all the way up to 14 pounds. Water temperature both of these trips was 37.5 degrees ( COLD ). In by the power plant the water was some what warmer ( depending on the wind direction ). 48 degrees was the warmest we found at that spot.

Our last trip was March, 28, 1999. We limited out!!! 10 Brown Trout!!! ranging in size from 3 pounds to 15 pounds ( 5 of them where over 10 pounds each ). Not bad for this early in the year. Power plant area produced 3 of the fish, but no warm water was to be found, because of the southeast winds pushing that water in too close to shore. The harbor or what we call the GAP produced the other 7 fish. Water temps where 41 degrees in the harbor and just out in front of it, while temps by the power plant where 39 degrees. We took fish on the boards, slide divers and downriggers.

It sure looks very good for April and May fishing off Sheboygan as the shad, alewife and of course smelt move in along with the trout and salmon.

I do run a spring special, which I call "CABIN FEVER" I put my charter boats in early every year for the spring run and I start running charters April 15th. This special runs through the end of May. June,1st my standard summer rate's start and apply to the end of our season which is early October. These summer rate's even at $50.00 - $60.00 each is very affordable for a half day of fishing aboard a fully equipped charter boat.
