The coal and nuclear plants are within minutes of the harbor. The hot water discharge attracts Coho and Chinook Salmon, plus Brown and Rainbow Trout. Also, deep water can be reached sooner because the bottom drops off faster for midsummer fishing action.
Richard Hess, Illinois Manager Lake Michigan Fishery Program, states that every two out of three fish caught in 111inois Water are boated in our area of the lake. This is due to the natural structure and currents that tend to hold predator and bait fish in this area throughout the Fishing season.

The famous Kenosha Reef lies a short distance Out of the harbor. This is without a doubt one of the best lake trout fishing grounds in the lake, where limit catches from 5-20 pounds are common.
Unlike other areas of Lake Michigan, most Fishing is done Within 10 minutes of the harbor, al lowing more fishing time and less time cruising between fishing grounds.
